 An exciting opportunity is now available for an innovative and motivated adult speech and language therapist to join our team. Kick start your career at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) one of the largest health boards within Wales. 

 About Us  

The ABUHB Adult Speech and Language Therapy Department has been active in translating current evidence into new clinical service delivery models of care for adults with communication and swallowing problems.   

Some of these innovations have included:  

  • implementation of request for help line  
  • increased use of technology,  
  • group interventions,  
  • investment in speech and language therapy assistants and student clinics to increase intensity of treatment, 
  • extended scope of speech and language therapy practice (e.g. FEES) 

Speech and language therapy services for adults are currently based in the following ABUHB facilities: the brand new Grange University Hospital, Royal Gwent Hospital, Nevill Hall Hospital, Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr and County Community Hospital. Services provided include acute, outpatient services, rehabilitation, community rehabilitation and community-based care. 

 About the Role 

This is a unique opportunity to further develop your clinical experience to set you up for your career. We offer experiences in community and rehabilitation settings and provide the opportunity to develop a wide variety of specialist clinical skills in the management of Communication and Dysphagia disorders.  

 It is desirable that you are trained to RCSLT level C as a Specialist practitioner in Dysphagia competent to carry out assessment and management of eating/drinking and swallowing disorders autonomously. You will be able to deliver a comprehensive holistic dysphagia management plan in the context of multi-disciplinary working. 

This role will require the successful candidate to: 

  • Undertake high level speech and language therapy duties of a complex and varied nature with a high degree of independence 
  • Actively contribute to the advancement of quality speech and language therapy services and optimal patient care 
  • Monitor and report on speech and language clinical practices, resources, activity and outcomes within the community and rehabilitation settings 
  • You will provide a sound level of professional knowledge and skill for routine practice and increasingly complex tasks and will contribute to the advancement of Speech and Language therapy services through the provision of clinical leadership, and active participation in quality improvement activities, research and/or education. 
  • Work in partnership with a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals
