Specialist in Special Care Dentistry

SALARY SCALE: Band C
The Aneurin Bevan University Heath Board (ABUHB) is looking to recruit a specialist in Special Care dentistry (SCD) or within 6 months of obtaining CSST to join a progressive team of three consultants in Special Care Dentistry, two specialists in paediatric dentistry and excellent, experienced community dental teams. The post holder will provide prevention, diagnosis and treatment to vulnerable adults requiring SCD that includes anxious and phobic; complex medical history, people with learning/physical disabilities, those have a severe mental illness, those with cognitive impairment, frail older people and those who are homeless or misuse substances.
The job is based at the relatively new Ystbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital that has special care dental facilities that includes wheelchair tipper and dental sedation. The role is varied and specialist dental care is provided in the clinic, on mobile dental units as well as domiciliary care. ABUHB CDS is committed to prudent healthcare with the provision of dental skill mix where the specialist will be supported by senior community dentists, dentists, dental therapists and sedation and special care dentistry trained dental nurses.
There is ample opportunity to provide training in sedation for other members of the dental team as ABUHB CDS has accreditation for sedation training. The health board also has 3 SCD specialty trainees. There is also access to multidisciplinary SCD GA assessment and GA lists in the local district general hospital in Newport.
