We are looking for an innovative and dynamic individual to join the Learning Disabilities management team as Professional Lead for Learning Disabilities Speech and Language Therapy. This is a new post that will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to shape and develop speech and language therapy provision to adults with a learning disability across Gwent. The postholder will be professionaly responsible for six speech and language therapists as well as unregistered therapy assistants.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the Directorate Management Team and ABUHB Head of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) in the development of an efficient and effective SLT service for adults with a learning disability accessing Learning Disability services in ABUHB. This will include the coordination and evaluation of service delivery and the development of joined up SLT service provision across all aspects of adult Learning Disability service delivery.
The post holder will be clinically accountable for the practice of all SLT staff working in the adult Learning Disability service. They will take professional responsibility for the SLT staff and will be required to work closely with Team Managers, Senior nurses and the Directorate Management Team to ensure effective planning, development and organisation of the delivery of SLT services within the directorate. A key component of this role will involve active participation in the adult learning disability directorate management team.

The postholder will receive professional support from the Health Board's core speech and language therapy service. We provide opportunities to participate in both SLT and LD service-wide CPD events and an in house leadership and development programme. Links with the SLT senior leadership across ABUHB provide excellent opportunities for peer support and ensures that high standards of performance across the Health Board are maintained.
Potential candidates must be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist and have recent experience of leadership, management and service improvement at a senior level, as well as skills and knowledge relating to the clinical area.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
