Senior Clinical Fellow in Ophthalmology

THIS IS A NON TRAINING POST
This post in Ophthalmology has arisen due to the necessity of a Senior Clinical Fellow role within the service. The role will cover general ophthalmic conditions. Therefore the successful post holder will need to have Full GMC Registration, appropriate working visa.
The post comprises of 7.5 – 8 DCC and 2 – 2.5 SPAs. The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota.
The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport is the largest single district hospital in Wales and is part of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board which manages secondary healthcare for South East Wales, covering the local boroughs of Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent. The Health Board includes Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavanney; Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Caerphilly and Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan, Ebbw Vale which serve a population of approximately 670,000. The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport has approximately 800 acute beds, 17 operating theatres, a busy maternity unit with 3,800 deliveries per year, a self-contained ophthalmology day surgery unit with two operating theatres, an outpatient suite and Orthoptic accommodation.
The Directorate of Ophthalmology provides services for the whole of Gwent, inpatient, day case and outpatients are provided from a unit on the Royal Gwent site. The unit opened in 2000 and has 8 inpatient beds, two operating theatres, and an outpatient suite with Orthoptics accommodation.
At Nevill Hall Hospital day surgery is carried out in the Llanwenarth Suite, with outpatient and Orthoptic clinics being held in a dedicated eye outpatient department.
Outpatient clinics are also held at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, County and Chepstow hospitals.
We have modern laser facilities in our dedicated outpatient areas at Royal Gwent, Nevill Hall and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospitals together with OCT and imagenet digital imaging systems capable of fluorscien and indocyanine green angiography. The department is fully supported by a Nurse Practitioner, nurse injectors and medical photographers.
The service has recently set up Glaucoma Diagnostic and Treatment Centres providing assessment and diagnosis for Glaucoma and OHT conditions in a community setting to improve access to Ophthalmology Services.
