Are you looking to enhance your career portfolio and continual learning plan within Obstetrics and Gynaecology? If so then our current opening is the perfect opportunity for you.

The post holder will be provided support and formal clinical supervision by Consultants to further their career portfolio and will be granted study and annual leave as that of recognised training posts. They will be encouraged and expected to participate in audits, reviews, journal club presentations, Departmental meetings and teaching.

The Unit offers a very active and exciting post-graduate teaching programme.  There are excellent Postgraduate Medical facilities available in a recently refurbished Postgraduate Centre.

The post is initially available for 12 months, but will be assessed in the initial contract period and extension may be granted subject to satisfactory appraisal up to 24 months. 

The post will be primarily based at Royal Gwent Hospital but may have duties in one or more of the other hospitals in the Health Board, as we work towards the opening of our exciting new Specialist and Critical Care Centre at the University Grange Hospital in Cwmbran in 2021.

The City of Newport is surrounded by beautiful landscapes including the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the undulating Vale of Usk, famous for its salmon fishing, the Brecon Beacons National Park and Forest of Dean – both less than an hour’s drive from Newport. Newport is just 90 minutes from London by rail with direct coach services from Heathrow and Gatwick airports and other major centres. Cardiff and Bristol international airports are within an hour’s drive.

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

 

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including   
  • Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
  • - an adults barred list check

Course Funding: Please note that unless agreed by the Division in advance, course funding is not available for Clinical Fellow or fixed term cover for training grades.

Career Support: Although this is a non-training post, the post holder will have a Clinical and Educational Supervisor to guide them with their career progression. They will also be involved, along with the lead consultant, to provide support for improvement of services in an area of their interest.

This post is not included on the current UK Shortage Occupation List and is subject to the rules outlined in the attachment ‘Resident Labour Market Test Guidance’.

On the closure date, this post will have been advertised for 28 days within a consecutive 3 month period and all applications submitted in the first and second round will be considered
