Perhaps you’re considering taking a year out between FP and Core Training and are looking for wider experience before or after travelling? Applications are invited for a Fixed Term Appointment (CT Level) post in Emergency Medicine.
The Emergency Medicine Department has undergone an extensive refurbishment of the Majors area to ensure that the environment is fit for purpose and conducive to patient flow. The department consists of 4 Resus Bays, an 11-trolley Majors bay, 3 Rapid Assessment bays, a Minor Injury area, separate paediatric facilities and an adjacent 9-bedded Clinical Decision Unit / Observation area.
Aneurin Bevan Health Board has recently completed a review of its clinical staffing model within its Emergency Departments and has secured Executive support to increase its body of consultants to deliver the new clinical model.
The department functions well as a team, currently comprising 12 Consultants (increasing to 13 with future appointments), 2 Associate Specialists, 2 Specialty Doctors, 6 Specialist Registrars, 16 junior doctors comprising ACCS, GPVTS, F2’s, CT posts, 2 ST3. There is a team of ENP’s and nursing staff with extended scope of practice. CPNs help to provide a liaison psychiatry service within the department.
Although these posts are not recognised for training, they are afforded the same training opportunities as our training posts, with access to in house training. Study leave is encouraged. You will have the opportunities to perform an audit cycle and take part in case presentations.
The Royal Gwent Hospital is an associated teaching hospital. It has an active Postgraduate Department and the Emergency Department has undergraduate students from The University of Wales School of Medicine at all stages in their undergraduate career.
