These posts are a mixture of replacement and new posts to cover expanding surgical activity. The posts will have a primary base at NHH or RGH but cross site working will be expected by the directorate to meet service. With the current reconfiguration of services across the health Board, including the new Grange University Hospital which is due to open in 2021, the post holder may be required to work at any site across the health board.
The departments in Nevill Hall Hospital and the Royal Gwent Hospital provide an anaesthetic service for both elective and emergency theatre lists in more than 30 theatres across sites. As well as undertaking elective theatre lists, anaesthetists provide 24 hour cover for emergency surgery, trauma and obstetrics. They also participate in resuscitation training and the cardiac arrest team. Total deliveries on the labour wards are around 6700 per year supported by elective lists and an epidural service. The directorate has an active acute and chronic pain management service. Critical Care is present on both RGH and NHH.
The post holders will undertake 7 DCC and 3 SPA sessions per week. Applicants are expected to take part in the on call rota at the site specified to successful candidates after interview. Rota frequency can change with appointments and attract a banding intensity supplement appropriate to service which will be agreed via job planning processes. Candidates are reminded of the Clinical Futures Programme and should expect agreed changes in their working patterns over forthcoming years. ABUHB is looking for capable applicants with skills to support the future health care models in ABUHB.
