Join us on our journey to pioneer new ways of working and deliver a world-class healthcare service fit for the future. Clinical Futures is Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s exciting programme of work to change the way NHS care and services are delivered across the Gwent area, centralising and promoting services in or closer to the home, along with high quality hospital services available when needed.  As part of this journey, we will shortly be opening our brand new £350m, 462 bed purpose built Specialist and Critical Care Centre at The Grange University Hospital

We have a full time vacancy for a Consultant in Anaesthetics, with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine, with potential for sessions in pre-hospital emergency medicine with EMRTS Cymru for interested candidates.  Applications from pure intensivists are also invited.

This post is based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.

The critical care service performs a multi-functional role covering all hospital specialities. An outreach service runs during 12 hours a day, 7 days a week –moving to a 24hr cover model. The Intensive care unit offers Step 1 and 2 FICM training as well as FICE and lung ultrasound FUSIC mentoring. We have a broad research programme, with dedicated research nurses. The new state of the art critical care unit comprises 24 L3 equivalent beds with planned expansion to 30 over the next 2 years. The unit will be paperless using ASCOM eICU platform.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) Cymru is an exciting service for Wales that provides Consultant and Critical Care Practitioner-delivered pre-hospital critical care and critical care transfer and retrieval across Wales. It is a partnership between Wales Air Ambulance Charity, Welsh Government and NHS Wales. We provide advanced decision making and critical care for life or limb-threatening emergencies that require transfer for time critical specialist treatment at an appropriate facility.

Candidates would have to fulfil a separate EMRTS personal specification and selection process, details of which can be found in the 'working for us' section of the website
