An enthusiastic Specialty Doctor is required to join the Torfaen Borough Older Adult Mental Health team, with a catchment area of approximately 18000 Older Adults.

Torfaen and south-east Wales is a thriving and cosmopolitan location, with easy access to the Severn Bridge in the east and the capital, Cardiff, in the west. The locality is surrounded by some of the most breath taking scenery in the UK, with the sea to the south and the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains to the north.

Torfaen is dissected by the M4 corridor – and with the removal of the tolls to cross the Severn Bridge it has never been more accessible. Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.

Staff wellbeing is one of the Health Board’s priorities, with a comprehensive package of support and development opportunities available to all. It is the Health Board’s aim that it is an enjoyable and fulfilling place to work as feeling valued at work has a positive impact on both staff and patients.

Torfaen borough has a very well developed community older adult mental health team, a well modelled & novel inpatient functional illness ward responsible for all the 5 boroughs and a forward thinking and innovative Memory assessment service. The job planning would give ample opportunities to have further training in Psychiatry and to develop a special interest.

The post holder will be based at the purpose built Ty Siriol Unit where the CMHT, Memory Assessment service, inpatient functional illness unit, in-reach nurses, occupational therapy, outpatient and Clinical Psychology departments are co-located. The post holder will have comprehensive responsibilities along with the Consultant Psychiatrist. The adult psychiatric unit, Talygarn, is located adjacent with which we maintain a close working relationship. County hospital has general outpatient facilities for various medical specialties, inpatient medical rehab wards with some frailty assessment beds, physiotherapy department and some investigation facilities.
