Are you a Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist looking for an exciting challenge in a dynamic and innovative integrated therapy team?

Do you want to be part of developing and shaping a new Critical care SLT service in ABUHB?

If so, come and join our skilled and enthusiastic Adult SLT/MDT service at ABUHB.

The keys to the new Grange University hospital will be handed over in 2020 in Llanfrecha. The new hospital will provide complex specialist and critical care treatment for South East Wales. This world-class critical care unit will provide holistic, multi-disciplinary care across the spectrum of critical care medicine to meet the needs of the local population.  It will improve patient experience and provide modern facilities for the delivery of care.

You will provide a lead role in the development of a high quality critical care SLT service for patients in Gwent.

  • To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment for adults with complex communication, and swallowing disorders in the Acute/Critical Care Team.
  • To work as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team to ensure inter-professional patient care for patients with communication and swallowing disorders
  • To provide specialist education, training and advice to patients, carers, SLT colleagues, other health care professionals, students and voluntary organisations

Ideally, you will have substantial post-registration experience and established skills in managing communication and dysphagia/ tracheostomy management. Supervision of junior members of staff and students will be a key part to your role. Close multi-disciplinary working will be essential to your role, as will taking an active lead in the ongoing development of a high calibre Speech and Language Therapy Service

The successful applicants will join a supportive and motivated team of Highly Specialist SLTs, Specialist SLTs and Speech and Language Therapy assistants. The ABUHB SLT team is committed to evidence based practice and professional development. Regular team meetings, CPD opportunities and regular supervision ensure a high quality of service is provided. ABUHB will also support the successful candidate with in-house leadership training courses.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
