Consultant in Sleep and respiratory Medicine

Based at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, SE Wales

We are looking for an enthusiastic respiratory physician to join the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine team at Nevill Hall Hospital. This is a new post established to advance sleep medicine services within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The appointee will complement and enhance the current service and contribute to the development of the specialty within the Health Board and Wales.

The post will appeal to candidates who want to pursue their interest in respiratory medicine and are passionate to gain expertise in Sleep Medicine. The post will offer the opportunity to gain European Sleep Research Society accreditation in Sleep Medicine.

The Aneurin Bevan sleep Centre is currently the only comprehensive facility for Sleep Medicine in Wales. We provide a tertiary service for patients with complex sleep disorders from neighbouring health boards in South, West and Mid-Wales.  The Sleep Centre has a three-bedded PSG laboratory staffed by three full time sleep technologists. We have dedicated clinics for neurological sleep disorders as well as for sleep and breathing problems and Non-invasive Ventilation.  Appointment of a Clinical Psychologist is underway to develop a Behavioural Sleep Medicine Service.

The wider respiratory department is a dynamic, forward thinking unit, providing a comprehensive array of diagnostic tests including bronchoscopy, EBUS, medical thoracoscopy, the full range of pulmonary function tests including cardiopulmonary exercise testing and a nurse lead pleural service. Specialist clinics operate in lung cancer, ILD, asthma, cough, bronchiectasis as well as general outpatient work supported by two dedicated respiratory nurse specialists.

Nevill Hall Hospital is distinguished by its supportive and friendly culture and embraces innovation and service development. The hospital is located in Abergavenny, recently named as second place in the best places to live in Wales 2018 guide in the Sunday Times.

Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.
