NHS Wales - Trainee Clinical Scientist in Genomics

Salary range is Band 6 on a 3 year fixed term contract.

Applications are invited for a Trainee Clinical Scientist (Band 6) in Genomics for the All Wales Genetic Laboratory, based in the Institute of Medical Genetics which includes the All Wales Clinical Genetics Service and Academic Genetic laboratories (School of Medicine) and Wales Gene Park.

The All Wales Genetics Laboratory is a partner of the All Wales Medical Genetic Services (AWMGS, hosted by the Cardiff & Vale University Health Board). Together with Cardiff University, Wales Gene Park and the Welsh Government they are working to deliver the Welsh Government Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy for patients within Wales. This is a highly exciting and innovative strategy with opportunities for staff, healthcare professionals across Wales, patients and the public.

This is a three year post-graduate programme.Trainees are also enrolled for a fully funded part time vocational master’s degree in their chosen specialism.


Trainees may be required to rotate through other areas which will involve secondments at other locations. On completion of training, prospects for permanent employment within Wales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are opportunities to progress through the career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are motivated to pursue their career within Wales.
