The NHS in Wales is offering three salaried post-graduate training programmes in Audiology for high calibre science graduates who are passionate about science and its role in patient care.


Audiology involves identifying, assessing and managing hearing and balance function and their associated disorders. Clinical Scientists in Audiology work in patient-facing roles engaging with patients of all ages as part of a team. The primary categories of sub-specialist activity include paediatrics, diagnostics, and rehabilitation (including surgically implantable devices). Audiology is an attractive specialism for those looking to combine use of scientific, technological and communication skills. There is a focus on innovation, development and research to improve patient outcomes. Career prospects are excellent, associated with innovative local and national developments in Audiology in Wales. Successful candidates will be employed by an NHS Wales organisation for the duration of their three year post-graduate training programme. Trainees are also enrolled for a fully funded part time vocational master’s degree in Audiology.


Trainees may be required to rotate through other areas which will involve secondments at other locations. On completion of training, prospects for permanent employment within Wales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are opportunities to progress through the career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist.
