Thinking of taking a career break, and want a job to come back to?

Not sure what to do next?

Want more experience in medicine before moving on in your career?

Do you want time to dedicate to a non-clinical activity and learn new skills?

How about an opportunity to spruce up your CV before applying for core medical or higher training?

We are offering flexible and interesting opportunities to work in our medical department.   We work in a relatively small district general hospital; which is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships.  Our department has teams specialising in acute medicine, care of the elderly, cardiology, gastroenterology, diabetes and endocrinology and respiratory medicine.  In addition to ward duties in one or more of these areas you would be expected to work on the medical on-call rota.  Depending on your experience there may be opportunities to do foundation, core trainee or even registrar level shifts.

How about spending time in your week in one of a number of potential non-clinical activities?

  • You could work with our informatics department in developing and updating our clinical applications.
  • Perhaps you would like to develop skills in medical education. We can support you in this, including contributing towards tuition fees for a postgraduate certificate of medical education.
  • Are you interested in quality improvement? Our renowned ABCi team are available to support you.

Thought about gaining expertise in geriatric medicine? As well as great clinical experience, we can contribute towards postgraduate certificate in gerontology and ageing studies.Do you want to work part time? Are you are after a 3, 4, 6, 8 or 12 month job? Did you want two 4 month posts, with 4 months off in between? We can look to accommodate you.

Although this may not be recognised as a training post, you will be welcome to attend the in-house training provided. We can help provide you with access to an electronic portfolio to keep a log of your learning. You will be entitled to a study leave budget.

Applicants must hold MBChB or an equivalent medical qualification and ideally have 2 years post qualification experience including experience in Acute Medicine/ Medical specialities. Experience and confidence of NHS systems and practices is expected.
